In response to Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) voting against the GOP Senate Tax Reform plan on the Senate floor in the middle of the night, Tennessee Small Business Alliance Director, Lenda Sherrell, released the following statement:
“We applaud Senator Corker for listening to our members who sent petitions, letters, and calls encouraging him to stand by his principles and vote no on this rushed handout to the wealthy and big corporations at the expense of small businesses, middle class Tennesseans who will see their taxes go up and the future generations that will be burdened with over a trillion dollars of additional debt.
Our small business owners know deficits are bad for them, and they are bad for our country, too. Senator Corker saw that. We’re disappointed that Senator Alexander and the rest of the GOP chose to support this bad bill that gives a huge handout to the wealthy and big corporations just to give the rest of us a trillion dollars additional debt, higher taxes on the middle class, and rigged market competition that favors big business over our small businesses.
Small businesses need tax reform that works for all of us. This tax plan should be rejected and Congress should start over with a plan that levels the playing field and enables small businesses to unleash their economic potential and allows them to compete with their big business counterparts, instead of this plan of handouts to the wealthy and big corporations at the expense of small firms and the middle class.”
